We have partnered with photographer, Gerhardt Coetzee to develop a 4 day photographic experience.A little about Gerhardt; “Coetzee has received two Sony Profoto Silver awards and two Sony Profoto Gold Awards for his Openspaces series. He has received a merit award for the Sasol New Signatures competition and his work is part of the Sasol Permanent collection. Coetzee was also one of the ten finalists in the ABSA L’Atelier competition.”
DAY 1

We’d kick off with a basic introduction to camera operations as a photographer e.g.; exposure control, aperture, shutter speed and iso.

Following this, we’d explore simple wildlife photography in Simon’s Town. Guests can break the ice with one another while photographing the penguins and learning how to shoot on manual, practicing basic camera functions guided by myself.

We could end the day at Windmill Beach doing light painting photography. This would be the first introduction to creative landscape photography. It would need to be just after sunset and we’d explore long exposure and working with colour gels and flashes.

DAY 2

We could start the day at Kirstenbosch where we would explore landscape and macrophotography.

Back at the hotel, we could have a late afternoon post-production workshop. Here, I’ll show guests how to use Adobe Lightroom in order to process and polish their top selects of photographs taken from Day 1 and 2. I will guide them through how to process their raw images in order to make basic adjustments, and demonstrate different landscape editing techniques.

DAY 3

6am start in Kalk Bay Harbour, here we’d taken photographs of a beautiful sunrise, sea scapes, fishing boats, lighthouse and seals etc. Then, I will organise for a portraiture session with one or two of the fishermen or women. Here, I will introduce how to take portraits with external lighting using speed lights.

Back at the hotel, we’ll have a photographic theory workshop where we’ll prep and get everyone excited for Day 4. We’ll explore the principles of design and composition within photography, and we’ll look at some iconic street photographers by unpacking their work.

DAY 4

Morning session would be a city architectural tour through Cape Town. I would source a guide for this and we’d do a walkabout exploring and photographing different architectural landmarks. Here, we will look at architectural photography, interior, and street photography. It could also be nice to touch on how to make artistic black and white photographs.

Afternoon session would be a final workshop and debriefing. Guests can ask questions and get some help on any post-production or photographic queries. We will eat and be merry 😉
